MBChB, MPharm Med, MSc Sports Med, Dip Allerg

I first qualified as a medical practitioner in 2001 from the University of Pretoria, and started my career at the Pretoria Academic Hospital Emergency Department. I have 15 years experience in GP practice and have worked in emergency as well as general medicine locally and internationally.

My special interest is allergy management. There is a great need for specialized allergy care in the Gauteng / Tshwane / Pretoria area. Therefore, I started the MedAhead Allergy Centre. The Allergy Centre aims to deliver a comprehensive service, focusing on the work-up, diagnosis and treatment of all allergy related conditions – such as allergic rhinitis, asthma, atopic dermatitis, urticaria, drug allergies, food allergies and many more. It offers extensive allergy tests, including skin prick-tests, patch tests, food and drug challenges. Immunotherapy is available to desensitize against environmental allergies and bee venom allergy.

Furthermore, in the past few years, I have practiced sports medicine and gained valuable experience in musculoskeletal medicine, exercise medicine and rehabilitation. Currently I am studying ultrasound which provides additional ways to extend conventional examinations. I love treating my patients holistically, where diet, exercise and a positive attitude are just as important as the medicine prescribed.

I am married to a wonderful husband, Montagu, and have two beautiful little girls. I share the vision and ethics of my colleagues at MedAhead and look forward to providing a first-class service to our community.

MBChB (US 1998 Cum Laude), B. Sc. Honns Pharms (PUChO 2005, Cum Laude),  Dip PEC  (CMSA 2001, Medal), CDE Diabetes accreditation 2015 and University of South Wales Post Graduate Diploma in Diabetes (in process)

I have spent seventeen years working in the field of Emergency Medicine, thirteen of which in the private sector ( Wilgers Trauma Unit), gaining invaluable experience in general adult and paediatric medicine, medical and surgical procedures, conscious sedation, crisis management, resuscitation and follow-up care. In addition to these clinical skills, I was privileged to acquire extensive people skills as well as personal development in business management, administration and leadership. I value people and truly enjoy interacting with colleagues and patients alike. I have reached a stage in my medical career where I would like to build relationships and partner with my patients in understanding and managing medical challenges. We should look at our problems from different angles in creating solutions.

Diabetes is a world wide epidemic.  This multi-system, complex, growing illness requires a holistic approach, sound evidence-based medical knowledge  and a responsible lifestyle.

I strive to be a well balanced person, to live a well balanced life, to tread softly and always keep on growing. I am very happy to be a part of the Med Ahead @ Wilgers team  – and happily go home to my husband Uli and my two lovely boys David and Heinz.
